Lesson Five: Creating Tables

A table is made up of rows and columns of cells that you can fill with text and graphics. You can use tables to create interesting page layouts, arrange text and graphics, or create a navigation menu. Tables are used in web design to improve formatting. Tables hold images and text in their place. Here is a page with tables (borders and gridlines are hidden) and here is one without. On the second page I used the tab key to positon the images and words. The formatting did not hold when I converted the document to a web page.

Now that you know what tables are and how they are used in web design, you are ready to create your own. Work your way through these questions. Feel free to skip ahead if you already know the answer.

  1. How do I create a table?
  2. How do I insert images and text into a table?
