Good file management will make it easier to keep your work organized. It will also simplify the publishing process after you have created your web page.
You will be creating a total of three folders. One folder will be called "Web Design". Inside that folder, you will be creating 2 more folders. One will be called "Stuff" the other will be named in lowercase letters without spaces using the initial of your first name and your full last name. For example, my folder would be named "ddell."
If you are already familiar with creating folders, you won't need to read these steps. Go to the next lesson or work through the steps below.
Follow these steps to set up your file system for web design:
To create your file system:
- Open the directory or folder in which you want to create a new folder. If you are working at school, make your folders in your home directory.
- On the File menu, point to New, and then click Folder.
- Type the name "Web Design" for the new folder, and then press ENTER.
- Open the "Web Design" folder that you just made.
- On the File menu, point to New, and then click Folder.
- Type the name "Stuff" for the new folder, and then press ENTER.
- On the File menu, point to New, and then click Folder.
- Type the name (in lowercase letters without spaces) using the initial of your first name followed by your last name for the new folder, and then press ENTER.
Note:
You can also create a new folder by right-clicking in a blank area on the desktop or in a directory, pointing to New, and then clicking Folder.
