Lesson 2: Web Design Basics

Read through these basic principles of web design. These rules might not make sense to you now but keep them in mind as you start to collect files for your web page. You might also like to read an article called "Building Web Sites for Kids."
- Choose light font colors with dark backgrounds and dark font colors with light backgrounds. This will make the text easy to read.
- Use the same font throughout. Vary the size of the font if needed. More than one font makes the text hard to read.
- Be consistent! Use the same background, buttons, procedures, etc. throughout. Too much variety detracts from the content of your page.
- Minimize scrolling. If you have a very long page, consider breaking it up into several smaller pages that are linked together.
- Use meaningful text labels for all links and images.
